Get
ready to work it at "The Works" on Friday, July 22. This is going to be
an old school jam in the truest sense. The Bay Area underground house
scene is in need of waking up, and this lineup is sure to do it. Some of
SF's finest old school DJs unite on a Funktion-One soundsystem. There
will be lots of surprises to delight all 5 of your senses, so get ready
to take a ride and party your ass off!
DOC MARTIN
If there
was a house DJ in America who could accurately claim to be the most
important house DJ working today, it would be Doc Martin. But then, Doc
would never accept such a title even if it happens to be true, because
Doc is not only a legendary talent but a legendarily humble man.
The
Doc began his mission on the decks back in the summer of 1986. His
focus on house music from the land of funk and disco, was triggered
while playing the club and warehouse scene in San Francisco.
As
one of the major players in laying the foundations of a strong West
Coast dance scene, Doc has always been a master of mixing the crowd with
the music. Neatly avoiding pigeonholing, while embracing a myriad of
different styles, his set creates a warm unique vibe of empathy on the
dance floor.
GARTH
Garth has been an icon in San
Francisco nightlife for twenty years, playing a key role in sustaining
the flames of conscious hell raising that existed here in generations
past. Parties with his stamp include a coveted ten year residency at
Come Unity, thirteen legendary years with the Wicked Sound System, and
since 2005, his genre-defyng Acid Disco Back2Back jams with Jeno.
Coming
off his Wicked "20 Years of Disco Glory" tour with Jeno, Thomas, and
Markie, Garth comes back to SF to show us where it all started.
